RECOVERY
We believe it is time for recovery to go mainstream.
Not just to have recovery be depicted in the mainstream.
Dysfunction has certainly gone mainstream...Why not recovery?
StopandThinkRadio.com is Recovery.
We are all recovering from something.
Laughter is a healthy medicine. I have screwed up so bad at times cynical lawyers have literally fallen of their chairs laughing so hard. It is not a good radio show to me unless I can make Tim laugh at least three times.
In these perilous times, with every other news report using the word “crisis” in one depiction or another, why can’t we, why won’t we, why shouldn’t we, unite? Around as basic a truth as we could find. We are all recovering...either from our problems, or problems of those close to us.
Substance abuse ALONE has infected the entire nation. Take booze and drugs alone, which T.V., the tabloids, Vanity Fair, and every other source of information will show you ravages entertainment, affects the media, and assaults even the church. Society is reeling from the social effects. You don’t need a PhD in sociology or psychology to see it. Although, according to the Probation Department of the Norfolk County Probate Court, and others, my experience(s) give me an honorary one. I don’t know about that, but do know, as even my old man can confirm, I have a PhD in grief.
This whole operation is my attempt to give something back, finish well, go out a patriot, make my life purposeful...you pick the description.
Because the ship called the United States of America is listing, and to face myself in the mirror, I have to do what I can.
My conscience may be seared but it is not defunct.
I am seeking to bring recovery mainstream, a) because we need it, and b) it is good for me
I learned, from Bill Wilson, the best way to avoid trouble (in his case, booze) is to help others stay out of trouble. No matter what they do or don’t do, you still gain. It keeps you out of trouble.
The best thing we can do in these troubled times is to stop and think. All I have to do is concentrate on doing that. It’ll produce exciting programming, and keep me out of my own way.
Because recovery is far more than just booze and drugs.
There are now over 400 twelve step fellowships for various addictions, situations, etc. Everything from Debtors Anonymous (let’s enroll the U.S.), to Adult Children of Alcoholics, to Emotions Anonymous (who couldn’t use a meeting like that every now and again?), to……whatever. My cousin has spoken at All Addiction meetings.
This country, as a country, needs to walk through the steps of recovery.
The primary goal of Stop and Think is to get a major network to back this project. Not only for the millions it’d gain, but for the good will it would earn.
America needs to be walked through the steps, to recover from:
  •  Panic
  • Terror(ism)
  • Religious intolerance (left/right/center/other)
  • Decadence (check the dictionary folks, that’s not a good thing…I don’t care how good the cookies taste.)
  • Lawyers (take it from a recovering lawyer)
  • Video games (there is a vibe coming off some of them that’s almost spooky)
  •  Corruption
  • Stereotypes
The list goes on and on…Get the idea?? Plus, we all, in the privacy of our own homes, or in communities with friends, can face our own personal demons, “ism”, bondage, stronghold, addiction…you pick the terminology.
By facing ourselves, as a country, we can face the future as a country. Why not??   With a name like Alexander Francis Xavier Matulewicz Esq., what else am I going to do??
Even if I fail, I’ll have succeeded. In keeping me out of self inflicted trouble. Because my track record CLEARLY shows I am my own worst enemy.
Stop and Think Radio will comment on the news and public events, inject the spirituality of the 12 steps of recovery, and do it all under the umbrella of recovery.
Why?? Practically speaking in the U.S. there is a tremendous audience. Over the past eleven months the consistent figure we have been told is 30 million plus have had some contact with fellowship hall recovery.
Plus if we can get America to realize recovery is more than just booze and drugs (cigarettes, TV, food, etc…) Then we are all covered. Besides a few monks, mountain   men, and whoever else, we’ve all been affected, influenced, altered, hurt…you pick the description.
By the Screen. Of one variety or another.
Stop and Think Radio is a ½ hour mental health vitamin supplement, which we hope you will find as nourishing as we find it to be in creating it.
